Surgical Pre Operative Instructions
🚨 Before Your Appointment
Illness?
- Contact the oce if you have flu, fever, sore throat, or unexplained digestive issues.
Medications?
- Confirm with the oce ahead of time whether to continue or adjust your medications.
👚 What to Wear
- Loose-fitting, dark-colored clothing
- Short sleeves
- IV will be placed in the arm/hand
- Monitoring leads go under sleeves and shirt (torso and shoulders)
- Do NOT wear:
- Facial/oral jewelry
- Facial makeup
- Nail polish or artificial nails (we need access to a bare fingernail)
🍽️ Eating & Drinking
- No food or drink (including water) for 8 hours before surgery.
- Ask the oce if you need to take medications with a small sip of water.
🚗 Transportation & Supervision
- You must be accompanied by a responsible adult (18+) to and from your appointment.
- That person must stay with you at home for 4–6 hours after surgery until sedation wears o.
- Do NOT drive or operate machinery for at least 24 hours after sedation and while using
narcotic pain medications.
🚭 Substance Use
- Avoid tobacco: It can delay healing and increase infection risk.
- Avoid marijuana: It can cause serious sedation complications.
