Thank you for trusting us with your care!

Please follow these instructions to help your mouth heal comfortably and smoothly.

Extractions / Implants / Bone Grafts

  • A small “hole” after extraction is normal for several weeks.
  • Starting the day after surgery, rinse gently once nightly with warm salt water.
  • Dissolving stitches may last 1–4 weeks.
  • Small “grains” from bone grafting are normal.
  • Implants may have a visible healing cap or require a second uncovering procedure later.
  • Implants usually need 4+ months to fully heal with the bone.
  • Do not chew on the implant area or disturb the surgical site.

Bleeding

  • Place firm pressure on gauze for 30 minutes after surgery.
  • If bleeding continues, replace gauze and repeat.
  • Mild oozing or pink saliva is normal for 24 hours.
  • A damp tea bag may help.

  • Begin pain medication before numbness wears off.
  • Prescription pain medication should be taken with food. Avoid alcohol and driving.
  • Ice packs: 20 minutes on / 20 minutes off for the first 24 hours.
  • Swelling usually peaks days 2–3 and may last up to 5 days.
  • Soft cold foods like yogurt, smoothies, or ice cream may help.
  • If nauseous, eat soft foods and drink water before medication.

Numbness

  • Avoid biting your cheek, lip, or tongue while numb.
  • Mild tingling or altered sensation may temporarily last several weeks.
